You Were Born

You were born
at a time
when man has conquered
nature about him
with a societal reach
that obscures
the very nature
it conquered.
What a shame
we no longer know
how to adjust
to seasons
or to enjoy
the wonderful flow
of nature
about us --
where food
is a trip
to a grocery store
and water
is on tap
hot or cold.
Would I return us
to earlier eras
of struggle?
No, I think mankind
was born to overcome
and conquer nature
and to realized
all over again
that conquer as we must
nature still is in control
even the smallest of life's creatures
have a role
and a place
on earth
may our demands
in time
include the very nature
we seek so hard
to conquer.
