One

One
faces the world alone
Two
faces the world together
Three
faces the world embracing
Four
who begin to look for more
at times
it is we forget
in grim despair
that one
is not the best way
to move forward
that we share
a common humanity
beyond
race or religion
where friends
and even strangers
become involved
to lighten the burden
of one
for the burden of one
is the burden
of us all

Very few burdens are heavy if everyone lifts. Sy Wise

Coming Through a Tunnel

Coming through a tunnel
one sees the light
disappear
at the entrance
with surrounding darkness
enveloping,
the movement continues
in darkness
or if we are lucky
in artificial light.
One trusts
that it is alright
Some purpose
carries us through
to the other side,
the light
of our darkened passageway
fades away
into the light of day.
Life presents us
with many such tunnels
where trust
is the foundation
of forward movement,
where another's work
leads us through
a seeming impasse,
where hope
couples with joy
with embracing light
at the end of the tunnel.
Our belief
and our faith
is slowly raised
in the mounting evidences
of a greater plan
more than any one man
could muster
for in all things
there is the indelible mark
of our creator

see me
let me in
give me a chance
hear me
ponder my words
give me a voice
touch me
for all around you
are my creations
touch them
with love
with kindness
and understanding
give me hands
seek me
in all you do
acknowledge me
with thanks
with good deeds
and generosity
give me heart
and I promise
you will see me
again and again

I felt as if I were walking with destiny, and that all my past life had been but a preparation for this hour and this trial. Winston Churchill

Am I Any Different

Am I any different
than say five years ago?
or how about
yesterday?
or the day after losing a good job?
how about
after divorce?
or failing an exam?
am I any different
than the day
a fine job landed my way?
or I passed a hard exam
making an "A" score?
or having a child?
Did I change
when I made a poor decision?
or can I
count the best decisions
and let them stand?
or am I a sum total
of all that's gone before?
I don't know
I do know
I carry on
for better or worse
in sickness or in health
in poverty or wealth
I carry on
until I die
and I am told
that even then,
even then
Still am I
I think
the best part of life
is I believe,
I hope,
and I pray --
and with love
what an unbeatable combination
for with love
it all seems to matter

A man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them. Mark Twain

There is very little difference in people. But that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative. W. Clement Stone

Inner Sense of Rhythm

Inner sense of rhythm

Henry David Thoreau
comes to mind

A different beat
from a distant drummer

the drummer within
beckons each one of us
Most pretend not to hear it
Others drown it out
being busy
with life's chores --
the path we choose
each day of our lives
will bring the drums
closer
or farther away,
they always return
they are the compelling notions
in our brain
coming to the surface
reminding us
of a mission
branded within our souls
the uniting of soul & spirit
comes with its own dna
a hidden imprint
awaiting
our choice
to stand up & walk tall
to begin a journey
far beyond any we can recall
a fresh
and exciting
perspective
the drums keep calling us
no matter how far
we run away
the drums keep calling us
no matter how far
we go astray
the drums keep calling us

One should always act from one's inner sense of rhythm. Rosamond Lehmann

Potential

Potential
a word that comes to mind
at every crossroad in life
when we reconsider
life's choices
and choose again
a second round
everybody has them
our best competition
is ourselves
going forward
backward
or holding on
as if life
would be so kind
as to stop
progression.
No,
potential
is a dream
in progress,
fulfillment
carries on to a
second round
the race at best
is ourselves
deep inside,
the drive
like water over a dam
flows smoothly
with added potential,
the air recharges
the water,
we choose again
going forward
backward
or holding on --
Potential,
a word that comes to mind
at every crossroad in life

I always feel sorry for people who think more about a rainy day ahead than sunshine today. Rae Foley

Julie

Julie
In my pausing
I have held onto you
Kissed you
Walked forward with you
and wondered
is this the right moment?
Are we meant for each other?
Despite a heavy load
on all sides
and no financial stability
I have gone forward
trying to be there
when I could be
and letting go
when I could not
I've tried to understand
our best sides
trying to be there
with what works
At one moment
of many such ponderings
I prayed in my heart
to know
and decided, yes, to continue
dating you, courting you
and the answer I got
was clear
a warmth in my heart
so in my pausing
I have held onto you
Kissed you
Walked forward with you

Live and work with integrity, and everything else is a piece of cake. Pat Salvatore

I Stopped Along the Way

I stopped along the way
and talked, for just a while
to someone I'd not known
very well or very long

In the time that past
we shared
discovering a tune
musical notes floating around us

What is this new song?
I wondered
Silently, afterward
I sat musing about our humanity

Don't know how long it's been
Since I've stopped
to talk so long
I should do it more often

People do not know
at the time it happens
what influence
will be felt

All I can say is it's
transforming
to be human
to see other sides of the coin

Certainly, we are all attached
some way, somehow
despite our differences
our disconnectedness

Perhaps we are here
to reconnect
where we have been
pulled apart

If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
